Ok - let's just put it out there. I love animals. Actually I love almost any animal! Good thing for my family we live in the city or we would have horses, chickens, goats and more.
Here is one problem that I have. I am a complete sucker for rescue animals. As a result we have 3 dogs and 1 cat. Two of the dogs are rescue dogs and the cat is also a rescue. We don't go to pet adoptions anymore. When we got Murphy, my husband dropped me off at the door. When he walked in I was cuddling this little bundle of fur. He knew it was all over - that dog was ours! I just cannot look into those deep brown eyes and leave them there. Lucy was our latest addition to the zoo. I held her and just could not leave her behind.

Murphy - The Old Man |
Murphy doesn't like being in his kennel and his legs are starting to get tired. Sometimes I think he doesn't like to go down the stairs to go to the bathroom. So, yes, you guessed it, he goes in the house.
There is one spot in the house that seems to be a favorite. Maybe it isn't him. Maybe it is one of these 3?

We have tried everything, commercial carpet cleaners, store bought and many other things. When it got warm this summer the room was unbearable. We tried many "natural" solutions and NOTHING WORKED. Until we stumbled on this combination:
RECIPE
I used a spray bottle with a funnel to avoid spilling. I am good at spilling things
Add the following to a spray bottle.
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 10 oz hydrogen peroxide (I used 3%)
- 2 tsp vinegar
- 4 drops of Orange Essential Oil (Buy The Essential Oils I Use Here)
- Shake before using
- Test a small amount of area to be cleaned to be sure it doesn't affect color
- Put the baking soda in the funnel first (while it is dry)
- The liquids will wash down the baking soda
- You could use any citrus oil - lemon, grapefruit, but I prefer orange
Generously spray the area and let it dry. Once dry, vacuum as usual. You may have to apply multiple times for heavily soiled areas.
Here is the beauty - no harmful chemicals for those 4 legged fur babies!
Now we can get another pet!
It’s nice to know that you guys are fond of animals, and that they find comfort in your company. Anyway, this are really useful tips, and I bet they’re quite effective. Thanks for sharing this with us, Lori. All the best!

Thank you so much! I am not sure why my blog is not notifying me on comments. Sorry for the delay!
DeleteWill this help dog vomit smell? Both of my dogs are getting old and I have bad odors everywhere? I just don't know what to do with the furniture and the carpet.
ReplyDeleteIt did help for us. We had an older dog also and had a lot of similar issues. Thanks so much for reading and commenting! Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
DeleteWe only rescue our animals as well. Now that we are senior citizens, we rescue senior dogs and those with medical problems.(We have 3 right now.) They do present problems at times but so do we! This mixture is great & we use it regularly because arthritic dogs cannot always get up in time to make it outside. Thanks for all you do. Rescue is just so rewarding for all of us. It helps your heart and soul.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. Going to give this a try!!!

ReplyDeleteDo you think it's safe to use in my carpet cleaning machine? The areas hit are too vast. I've treated so many times over the years but carpet in living room looks like a crime scene under black light no matter what I do. Machine would help to lay down more product over large area. Wondering if you have tried this method.
ReplyDeleteIt works! I had a human urine stain/odor in my mattress which only revealed itself when the ac was off. I searched high and low for a treatment but they are so expensive and I'm beginning to use natural " concoctions" for my household and personal needs. I had everything on hand! Plus, it smells great which other products have warnings about. Thank you so much! Karyl
